After his capture in Altoona, Pennsylvania, prompted by a tip-off from a McDonald’s customer, authorities located a fraudulent New Jersey driver’s license and a silenced “semi-automatic pistol”, both produced using a 3D printer, in his possession. Investigators discovered handwritten documents concerning the crime, hinting at a potential motive behind the killing.
A briefing from the New York Police Department indicated that Mangione perceives himself as a crusader standing up against “corporate greed” and the health insurance sector.
Public sentiment on social media has been divided, showing both criticism and backing for Mangione’s supposed actions seen as a statement against the health insurance industry notorious for denying coverage to those unable to pay.
